Celebrating Women 2026!
Women have always been central to human success, long before California started formally celebrating Women’s History Week in Santa Rosa in 1978; nine years later, Congress designated March as national Women’s History Month.
The 10th annual Zero to Fierce (02F) Festival features two weeks of events in March to honor women’s strength, resilience and power.
“Entirely written, directed, produced and curated by women, the 02F festival aims to honor women’s voices and stories in the weeks surrounding International Women’s Day,” organizers said.
Offerings “Celebrating Creative Women” include original theater, music, art, dance, films and workshops at Arcata Playhouse, EXIT Theatre, Redwood Raks and The Summitt in Arcata, and Carlo Theater in Blue Lake. More than 20 theater performances are scheduled from Wednesday, March 4, through Sunday, March 15. Community radio Humboldt Hot Air (94.7FM and humboldthotair.org) plans special 02F programming throughout the festival.
International Women’s Day, Sunday, March 8, harkens back to the Suffragists of the early 1900s, focusing on the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day’s 2026 theme, “Action. Justice. For ALL Women and Girls,” highlights equal rights for women worldwide.
The Humboldt branch of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom and the Cal Poly Humboldt Women’s Resource Center will host community organizations, dancers, poetry, a singalong, food and more at Redwood Raks (824 L St.) on Sunday, March 8, from 4-7 p.m.
