A Thanksgiving Tradition at HSRC’s Heritage Cafés
The Humboldt Senior Resource Center (HSRC) Nutrition Program is once again preparing for one of our favorite traditions — the annual Thanksgiving luncheons!
For more than four decades, HSRC has brought older adults in Humboldt County together for a special Thanksgiving meal, and this year’s celebrations will continue that tradition of good food, friendship and community at HSRC’s three Heritage Cafés.
The meal includes traditional favorites — roast turkey with gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, pumpkin pie and more.
The Arcata Heritage Café hosts Arcata’s 43rd Annual Thanksgiving Luncheon, a beloved holiday tradition, on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at noon in the Arcata Community Center, 321 Martin Luther King Parkway.
Thanks to a long-standing partnership between HSRC Nutrition staff and the Rotary Club of Arcata Noon, this is much more than just a holiday meal. It is a wonderful opportunity for local older adults to gather, enjoy great food, reconnect with friends and neighbors and experience the warmth and generosity of the broader Arcata community. HSRC is grateful to the Rotary Club of Arcata Noon members for their continued support and hands-on dedication, which makes this celebration so meaningful every year.
The Eureka Heritage Café at 1910 California St. will also host its annual Thanksgiving luncheon on Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This festive kick-off to the holiday season is one of the Café’s most popular events of the year.
The Fortuna Heritage Café continues to celebrate on Thursday, Nov. 19, with its Thanksgiving luncheon at noon in the Gene Lucas Community Center at 3000 Newburg Road.
At all three locations, the Heritage Café Thanksgiving meal is about more than what’s on the plate. These community dining sites provide older adults opportunities to enjoy a nutritious meal, connect with others and celebrate the season together. We look forward to filling each Café with both new and familiar faces, good conversation and plenty of Thanksgiving spirit. These celebrations provide a warm and welcoming place to share a meal and enjoy the company of others.
HSRC is grateful to the staff, volunteers, community partners and participants who help make these annual celebrations possible. We are especially grateful to The Rotary Club of Arcata Noon for their continued partnership and generous support of the Arcata Thanksgiving Luncheon. Their involvement is a wonderful example of what can happen when community organizations come together to support older adults.
We look forward to celebrating Thanksgiving with our community. Reservations are required; please contact your local Heritage Café — see page 12 for phone numbers and additional info.
