PAID ADVERTISEMENT Humboldt Commons: A New Community Takes Root Every community starts with an idea. At Humboldt Commons, that idea is simple: the belief that aging well happens best in community. Humboldt Commons was created by friends and neighbors who wanted a way to age together in the place they love. Instead of starting with a traditional developer model, this community began as a grassroots effort led by local volunteers who shared a vision for aging well. That vision is now becoming a reality in the McKinleyville Town Center, where Humboldt Commons is set to become the first nonprofit Life Plan Community of its kind for adults 62+. Inspired by the North Coast’s spirit of cooperation, stewardship and connection to the land, this all-new community will feature just 109 planned residences, creating a neighborhood feel while preserving the beauty, connection and sense of place that define this region. For those interested in being part of Humboldt Commons, the first step is joining the Future Residents Priority List with a repayable $1,000 deposit. Priority List members receive updates, invitations and opportunities to connect with future neighbors as the community takes shape. Soon, Priority List members will have the opportunity to select their preferred residence through a 10% Reservation Deposit. Those who make an early deposit will become Original Groundbreakers, receiving benefits that include 2026 preconstruction entrance fee pricing, the opportunity to select finishes in their residence and access to a limited number of Life-Lease contracts with an 80% repayable entrance fee option. The North Coast has been defined by its connection to nature, neighbors and place. Humboldt Commons carries that spirit forward, creating a new community rooted in those same values. The future of Humboldt Commons is being built now, and the journey begins by becoming part of the community from the start.
