CA Biodiversity Week
As part of California’s eighth Biodiversity Week, Friends of the Arcata Marsh (FOAM) will offer a series of free talking/walking tours for any age Sept. 5-10 to celebrate and protect Humboldt’s great out-of- doors. All events will start at the Arcata March Interpretive Center, 569 S. G St.
• Saturday, Sept. 5, 2-4 p.m.: Paul Wilson, “Species Richness.”
• Sunday, Sept. 6, 10 a.m.: Lynn Jones and Paul Johnson guide participants in the “Find 30 Species Challenge” (download the free iNaturalist app to your phone beforehand).
• Monday, Sept. 7, 9-11 a.m.: Paul Johnson, “The Mysterious and Seldom-Seen Parts of Biodiversity.”
• Tuesday, Sept. 8, 10 a.m.-noon: Lynn Jones, “How Do We Increase and Steward Greater Biodiversity?”
• Wednesday, Sept. 9, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Elliott Dabill, “How to Identify Eight Common Arcata Marsh Plant Families.”
• Thursday, Sept. 10, 10 a.m.-noon: Barbara Reisman, “Introduction to Lichens at the Marsh.”
