Vote for Mary
To the Editor:
I’ve known Mary Burke for years and look forward to her becoming the next District 5 Humboldt County supervisor for several reasons.
She brings people together: During her tenure with both McKinleyville Community Services District and the McKinleyville Advisory Committee, she has shown that she can work with people and businesses of diverse perspectives in a respectful way that benefits the greater community.
She’s organized and gets things done: Through her work with CalTrout, she was instrumental in developing a plan and managing the creation of Coho salmon habitat and recreational trails along the Mad River on McKinleyville’s west side. By partnering with Redwood Community Action Committee, California Conservation Corps, local engineering firms, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, the Coastal Conservancy and the Wiyot and Yurok Tribes, Mary has shown her ability to coordinate with multiple players to fulfill a project that benefits both wildlife habitat and is a recreational gem for residents.
She’s approachable and respectful: Over the years, I’ve known Mary to be friendly and willing to listen to differing perspectives to help frame constructive solutions.
She’s running for the right reasons: Mary loves both the natural uniqueness of our area and the people who live here, and wants to work for a healthy balance between the two.
Vote for Mary, 5th District Supervisor.
